a documentation of our journey into knitting as a group

the face of us all

the brief

In this project we will be working individually, in groups of four and eventually as a class.

We started with our individual portraits being taken. These were then layered on top of each other to create a group portrait, as well as a class portrait (as seen above). This portrait is the basis of our knitting project.

The entire group is working on one piece. This piece is a pixelated composite portrait including each member in the class. The portrait is made from 10 cm square pieces of knitting, in four different tones/colours.

The class is divided into four groups of four. Each group of four will work in one colour, developing the required number of squares in that colour for the whole portrait. Each group will develop as many different types of knitting patterns for their squares. The group documents the entire process on a blog. Each knitted square is photographed with clear knitting instructions.
Each group is responsible for the construction of one quadrant of the portrait.

measuring

note to self:  don't measure the casting on stitches as this is not a clear indication of the width of the final piece.
